As an immigrant, I have been misreading the word "caucus" as "cactus" for the past fifteen years. I always wondered what cactus has to do with a women's art group, and assumed it must be due to women's necessary similarity to a cactus: because woman had to be strong, resilient and prickly in order to defend and stand up for themselves in historically male dominant society.
